6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”
19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
Main Point: Jesus sees our heavenly Father blessing us. Do we?
Do you ever feel like you're overlooked at times in life? It almost feels like back in the day at recess, when we would pick teams. Someone would usually be overlooked and passed up. If we are honest with ourselves, life feels like this for us from time to time. The interesting thing is, in this passage of scripture in John chapter 5 there is a man who has been overlooked for years. Jesus comes along and sees Him. Jesus doesn't just pass him by. He engages him, and then heals him.
In verse 19, Jesus reveals why He doesn't overlook people. Jesus says He can do nothing of His own volition, but rather He does what He sees His Father doing. Our heavenly Father loves blessing us and loves to show off His grace in our lives. We don’t deserve for Him to treat us the way that He does, but He does it anyway. It’s because He’s good, not because we are good. God sees Himself loving us and blessing us. Do you believe this? If you are feeling overlooked, then look again at the goodness of Jesus.
Deeper Focus:
-Are there areas in your life that have been overlooked and suppressed?
-Did you leave 2019 maybe feeling like the man in this story? Were there things that got left behind that you wanted to see accomplished?
-Today, see Jesus caring about YOU and the things that matter to YOU. As you pray today, bring those areas before Jesus in prayer and watch what will begin to happen to you and in you.
