25 “Whether He is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”
39 “Then Jesus told him, “I entered this world to render judgment—to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.””
Main Point: Only Jesus gives true sight.
Can you imagine what it would be like to be blind and have never seen? Your everyday norm would consist of darkness or at best vague obscurities of how things really are. None of this would be shocking, as it is all you’ve ever known. However, everything is suddenly changed in an instant.
Although most of us will never be able to fully relate to physical blindness, we are all born into this condition spiritually. We lack the capability to perceive what really matters in life or to even see the true helplessness of our condition. Many of us have become identified by our brokenness, just as in John chapter 9, the man is only identified as “blind beggar.” However, an encounter with Jesus radically changes everything for this blind man and signifies the same can occur for us.
Jesus offers all who believe in Him sight (verse 39). Everything changes when the gospel opens our eyes. We see our sin as a problem, and Jesus as the only acceptable solution. The evidence of our change is also witnessed by those around us. A key part of Chapter 9 is that multiple people continuously asked the previously “blind beggar” about his change in condition. He replied simply, as in verse 25, “I was blind, now I see.” May the change of our lives cause others to inquire in the same way and may we be encouraged to simply reply, “now I see!”
Deeper Focus:
-Have you seen a change in areas of your life since meeting Christ and encountering the gospel?
-The “blind beggar” had a testimony or personal story of I was blind, now I see. What phrase(s) would describe your personal story?
-Have you had any opportunities to share this story with someone recently? Let’s pray together God brings others to inquire and gives us the reply to point folks to Him.
